Later in life, she earned her law degree from Yale University. In 1975, Hillary Rodham married Bill Clinton, who also attended law school. Their first child came in 1980, and was named Chelsea. When Hillary was first getting involved in politics, she campaigned for Barry Goldwater, who was the Republican presidential nominee. Her opinions changed, and she began supporting democrats after she heard a speech by Martin Luther King JR. When Bill Clinton became president in 1993, she served as the first lady of the United States. In 2001, Hillary Clinton left the White House, and became a United States Senator until 2009. Hillary attempted to be the democratic presidential nominee in 2007 against Barack Obama. This campaign ended one year later, sending Barack to be the nominee, and later to be elected president. When elected president, Obama appointed Hillary as Secretary of State, and she served in his cabinet until 2013. In 2015, Hillary announced her candidacy, and became the first woman to win the democratic nominee for president of the United States.
